System Models

Genetic mapping has now developed to a point at which the genetic dissection of a complex trait can be integrated with the biochemical pathways of trait formation. We have developed a novel statistical framework for characterizing the genetic architecture of a phenotypic trait by dividing it into its hierarchical genomic, proteomic and metabolomic components. A high-dimensional system of differential equations will be used to connect these components and organize them into a coherent dynamic system. We establish the platform for a series of hypothesis tests about the genetic control mechanisms of various parts of the system and the system as a whole. Numerical simulations are used to test the statistical properties of the new model and validate its utilization. The model will provide a useful tool for systems and computational biology.
