Ph.D Statistics, McGill University

Dr. James Ramsay supervised my thesis: "Bayesian Collocation Tempering and Generalized Profiling for Estimation of Parameters from Differential Equation Models". My thesis focused on parameter estimation from differential equation models using computational Bayesian methods and a smoothing based generalized profiling approach.

MSc Statistics, Dalhousie University

Dr. Hong Gu supervised my thesis "Application of wavelets in clustering Time Series". This is where I began studying wavelets. I produced a wavelet based clustering algorithm which takes into account the variability in the measurement times and frequency by mixing k-means clustering with a curve registration step.

BSc Environmetrics, Simon Fraser University

In my final year I worked as a research assistant for Dr. Rick Routledge examining the change in average size of salmon from various coastal BC populations. I extended data from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans back by up to 10 years using data collected by a local fisherman. I presented the results in a poster at the Oceans Management Research Network conference.

During my BSc studies at SFU I spent a semester on exchange at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji. In class I studied coastal fisheries management and marine pollution. I also spent time exploring the culture and language of Fiji. If you are a student at SFU (or wishing to visit SFU) find out more about the student exchange program.
